"Singing in Community" Peace Christian Church @ Mahomet
First Sunday each month at 4PM
There is something special that happens when hymns are sung 'in community.' There is a voice contributed by each person that rises up from each person, and yet when music is good, another element begins to swirl in the mix. Something shifts, and the song becomes more than just me, more than the individuals singing. The song becomes itself, alive and real and more than the sum of its parts. At the heart of a good song, we still see and recognize something shared and human in one another, which gives us hope.
Carrie Newcomer, a music making friend, sent an email (link in NOTES) that reminds us that:
"We can’t do everything, but we are required by love to do something."
Her activity was to work at a Soup Bowl Benefit started by her church to raise funds for her local foodbank.
Donations appreciated for the Lacare Food Pantry (if ya can't come, just take a moment to send them a check - PO Box 1115, Burnet, TX 78611)

August 12, 2024, A note from Robert Noland:
A lot has happened since you were last at the church in Mahomet!
o The church burned down.
o We have since re-purposed the Tabernacle into our “new” church building that is acoustically just right for a singing.
In the old days, the nearby churches would join us for our “Singings.” Perhaps you would like to join us for a Singing in our “new” facility. We hope to sing the First Thursday evening each month starting in September.
Tommy Jones, the talented music teacher for the Killeen Public Schools will lead the singing.
Join us ... Bring your friends and let’s lift our spirits. With all going on in the world, perhaps a little spirit lifting is in order. (-:

"Local Spacecraft Makes Good" (from Briggs Feb 2025 Newsletter)
On January 15th, Firefly launched its Blue Ghost Mission 1 lunar lander carrying ten NASA experiments. Nicknamed “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” the lander was carried by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the launch pad in Cape Canaveral into its Earth orbit where the two separated. Blue Ghost is on a 45-day trip to the moon, 25 of which will be spent orbiting Earth. Several experiments will be conducted during its Earth orbit, including measurements of solar wind particles in Earth’s magnetic field. After 16 days of orbiting the moon, Blue Ghost will land and spend one lunar day, which equals 14 Earth days, conducting experiments involving lunar subsurface drilling, dust mitigation, and x-ray imaging of Earth’s surface. Blue Ghost contains a number of components that were built and tested here at Firefly’s Rocket Ranch in Briggs. When it lands in early March on a large volcanic plain on the moon’s surface, we’ll all be able to say there’s a little bit of Briggs on the Moon.
Briggs does not yet have an active website yet, however they do have a FACEBOOK PAGE where announcements and events are posted: https://www.facebook.com/BriggsCommunity

Briggs Community Center, Inc. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Membership potluck meetings are held on the second Monday of Feburary, May, August, and November at 6:00pm, hosted at the Briggs Baptish Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend the BCCI potluck.
Commissioner’s Corner- by Damon Bierle: Lots of things are happening in the Precinct. I would like to highlight the new partnership between Burnet County and the Briggs Community Center Board of Directors. A year of planning led to BCCI turning over the Community Center and Ag Building to Burnet County. We are excited about the future of the Community Center. After the May 28 runoff election, maintenance crews will begin restoration to enhance and improve the building.
Work will include new windows, a solid roof, and reinforce beams so the second story can be used again. Various upgrades will be made while keeping the touches and charm of the building intact. Once restoration is complete the BCCI Board will be able to rent out the facility as was done in the past. Community events can use the building and the grounds for meetings, gatherings, reunions, and other functions. We look forward to a grand re-opening for everyone to attend.
