5. To be a group who is respectful of it's neighbors, other organizations, churches, etc.
Meetings held so far:
May 9, 2024 – The purpose for the meeting is to consideration of forming a Joppa Community Group. The need became apparent following meetings some in the community had with County officials and the Burnet County Historical Commission. A handful (14) of neighbors met briefly at Fellowship Hall, to gather input and suggestions for forming an “official” neighbors group, non-profit; discuss objectives of the group; start list of who is interested in a Joppa Community neighbors group. Interest in being a Member. Interest in being on the Forming Committee. Meeting ended abruptly due to storms.
Sep 10, 2024 – First Business Meeting of the Forming Committee. Eight (8) of the committee attended for discussion. We reviewed our purpose. Where to begin. non-profit status? Status of county’s progress on bridge rehab. How we can help expedite things. How we can partner with Joppa Church, and more.
Oct 16, 2024 – Second Business Meeting of the Forming Committee - Discuss 501c3 and next steps; Identify Officers and a Name for the organization, to be filed with Texas Sec of State.
6:45pm First Meeting of Group Members. Bridge electricity update; discuss 2024 bridge decoration; submit ideas for Names for the new group

August 12, 2024, A note from Robert Noland:
A lot has happened since you were last at the church in Mahomet!
o The church burned down.
o We have since re-purposed the Tabernacle into our “new” church building that is acoustically just right for a singing.
In the old days, the nearby churches would join us for our “Singings.” Perhaps you would like to join us for a Singing in our “new” facility. We hope to sing the First Thursday evening each month starting in September.

Saturday, May 11 - Yard Sale at Briggs Community Center, 185 Loop 308, 8am - 1pm
Commissioner’s Corner- by Damon Bierle: Lots of things are happening in the Precinct. I would like to highlight the new partnership between Burnet County and the Briggs Community Center Board of Directors. A year of planning led to BCCI turning over the Community Center and Ag Building to Burnet County. We are excited about the future of the Community Center. After the May 28 runoff election, maintenance crews will begin restoration to enhance and improve the building.
We don’t have a timeline yet, but will work to get new windows, a solid roof, and reinforce beams so the second story can be used again. Various upgrades will be made while keeping the touches and charm of the building intact. Once restoration is complete the BCCI Board will be able to rent out the facility as was done in the past. Community events can use the building and the grounds for meetings, gatherings,
reunions, and other functions. We look forward to a grand re-opening for everyone to attend.
